About
Florida Smile Works is the site operator of floridasmileworks.com.
The site is a reading guide for Floridians who want to understand smile work before they sit down with a dentist. Each page takes a question a reader is likely to have and answers it from public sources: federal health agencies, the American Dental Association, Florida's statutes, and the Florida Board of Dentistry's rules. Every page names its sources and links to them, so you can read the original wording yourself.
What you can learn here:
- What everyday oral health looks like, in the words of the CDC and NIDCR: brushing, flossing, regular check-ups, and why tartar removal takes a dentist or dental hygienist. See How smile work gets done.
- What a veneer is, from the ADA's consumer site MouthHealthy, and what the ADA said on May 14, 2024, about services that leave the dentist out. See Veneers.
- Why a dental fee is hard to find in public, from the ADA, and how Florida law limits the way a dentist's ad may state a fee. See Costs.
- Where lower-cost care and public coverage come in, from NIDCR and the CDC. See Insurance and cash.
- How to check a Florida dentist yourself, using Chapter 466 of the Florida Statutes, the Board of Dentistry's rules, the Board's own site, and the state's license lookup. See Choose a dentist.
The work on your teeth is done by a licensed dentist. The pages here are meant to help you walk in knowing the vocabulary, the rules a Florida dentist works under, and where to check a license.
How sources are picked and dated is on the Editorial policy page. What you do and don't have to share to read the site is on the Privacy page.
Education, not a dental practice. Florida Smile Works does not examine, diagnose, or treat.
